Teddy was an extraordinary, fun-loving, and adventurous 6-year-old who brought joy to everyone around him. He had a deep love for the outdoors and was passionate about motocross. As the first grandchild on both his mum’s and dad’s sides, Teddy was adored beyond measure by his family and friends. His energy and enthusiasm made him the heart of the family.

On the 20th of October 2023, a day that began like any other quickly turned into a nightmare. After helping Teddy get ready, his mum noticed a lump on his neck. Concerned, Ted’s parents, Richard and Katie, took him to Rotherham Hospital. After a series of tests and scans, doctors delivered the heartbreaking news that Teddy had a potentially cancerous growth. This led to his urgent admission to Sheffield Children’s Hospital, where further tests revealed the worst: Teddy had High Risk (Stage 4) Neuroblastoma, a rare and aggressive form of childhood cancer. The diagnosis was devastating, turning their world upside down.

Despite the overwhelming fear and sadness, Teddy’s family remained hopeful. They immediately agreed to the treatment plan, holding onto the hope that it would work. At first, things seemed to improve. Teddy’s tumours began to shrink, giving everyone a glimmer of hope. But just before his fifth round of chemotherapy, they received bad news. The treatment had stopped working, and the cancer had spread even more aggressively than before. The progress they had hoped for was quickly undone.

Teddy, being the brave boy he was, didn’t give up. Even with the tough news, he and his family decided to try a different type of chemotherapy. Although they saw some positive results at first, the cancer was just too strong, and Teddy was given only a few days to live.

In those final days, Teddy asked to go home, to be surrounded by his family. Richard and Katie honoured his wish, bringing him home from Sheffield Children’s Hospital. In the comfort of his home, surrounded by those who loved him most, Teddy spent his last hours. Just 24 hours after returning home, Teddy passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of courage, love, and hope.

Throughout his battle, Teddy remained strong and full of life. He faced each challenge with bravery and a smile, inspiring everyone who knew him. To honour Teddy’s incredible spirit, the Team Ted Foundation was created. The foundation’s mission is to continue Teddy’s legacy by helping other families create special memories during difficult times, without the worry of financial strain. The foundation also provides essential support, such as furniture and equipment, to help children spend their last moments at home, surrounded by their families, just as Teddy did.
